10 Los Angeles Colleges to Think About Attending
Choosing which college to go to can be one of the biggest decisions of your life. Not only do you need to consider the “feel” of the campus, its location, and extracurricular activities, but you also have to think about whether or not they have your program of study and if you can afford it. Los Angeles Banking Rates has compiled a list of some of the universities in the Los Angeles area which might appeal to you.
1. Biola University – Tuition: $28,852 per year. Room/Board: $8,370 per year. This private Christian university offers more than 145 academic programs through their seven different schools. They confer degrees ranging from B.A.s to doctoral degrees. Students are expected to attend chapel three times a week and take 30 credits of Biblical Studies.
2. California State University Los Angeles – Tuition: $4,701 per year. Room/Board: $9,105 per year. CSULA is part of the largest, most diverse, and most affordable university systems in the country. Six colleges offer different study options to the over 20,000 students who attend the school.
3. Fullerton College – Tuition: in-state $26 per unit, out-of-state $216 per unit. This two year public university is the oldest community college in continuous use in California. Enrolling over 22,000 students, Fullerton offers everything from certificates to the beginnings of a bachelor degree.
4. Los Angeles City College – Tuition: in-state: $26 per unit, out-of-state $188 per unit. Another two year public university, LACC is located in West Hollywood.Notable alumni include Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood, and Diane Watson.
5. Loyola Marymount University – Tuition: $36,426 per year. Room/Board: $12,397 per year. Offering 53 major areas of study, LMU was ranked by the Princeton Review on their “The Best 371 Colleges: 2010 Edition” list. Their enrollment falls just under 9,000 including graduate and law students.
6. Mount St. Mary’s College – Tuition: $29,232 per year. Room/Board: $9,830 per year. Mt. St. Mary’s is an independent, Catholic, liberal arts college which provides undergraduate educations for women and has a graduate program for both men and women. Their enrollment comes to 2,500 students.
7. Occidental College – Tuition: $1,187 per semester unit. Room/Board: $237 per week. This small, liberal arts college ranks 33rd on the U.S. News and World Report for top liberal arts colleges in the nation. It has also recently gained attention because President Barack Obama attended Oxy for two years before transferring to Columbia. They currently enroll 1,825 students overall.
8. Pacific States University – Tuition: $4,685 per quarter. Founded in 1928, PSU has provided a quality education in business and computer science to over 10,000 alumni. Their objectives include globalization of education, providing a values education, and creating a spirit of professionalism in their students.
9. University of California Los Angeles – Tuition: in-state $10,781 per year, out-of-state $33,660 per year. Room/Board: $13,734. With an enrollment over 26,500, UCLA offer 118 undergraduate and 200 graduate programs.This public, coeducational research university is the only leading research institution in the world founded in the 20th century.
10. University of Southern California – Tuition: $38,570 per year. On of the top private research universities in the country, USC offers bachelor programs in more than 150 areas of study. Enrollment falls just under 8,000, including graduate students.
